The lead equivalent measurement methods for a protective material are based on measurement of kerma (kinetic energy released in material) levels in air behind the protective material and reference lead plates calibrated by their thickness, in identical attenuation conditions in geometry of a narrow X-ray beam with further comparison of the measured values. The methods provide for calculation of a radiation attenuation ratio for a lead plate with thickness d.
The new X-ray protection measurement methods have already been validated by Federal Budgetary Institution “Standardization and Metrology Center for Moscow Oblast” – and they are indispensable for solving some important issues. For instance, they can be used to measure lead equivalents and calculate X-ray and gamma-ray attenuation ratios in the process of acceptance and routine testing of mobile and personal radiation protection equipment and protective materials.
The company is ready to provide test and auxiliary equipment for measurements pursuant to the newly developed methods.
